Veterans Arts Council

About
The VAC was founded by VFW Post 1 in 2015 and operates the VFW Post 1 Art Gallery and all of VFW Post 1’s community arts programs. Programs include the First Friday Art Walk, art workshops, Small Business in the Arts education and support. The VAC is a joint program between VFW Post 1 and the Post 1 Foundation.
Mission
The VAC encourages the artistic engagement and development of veterans by providing resources, workshops, mentorships and more. The goal of the VAC is to both empower Veterans to transform their experiences into media and to contribute to the greater creative community, a community that enriches civic life for all citizens.
The Veterans Art Gallery has the highest attendance of any gallery in the Denver Art District on Santa Fe.
The art gallery commits 20% of gallery space to civilian community artists as part of our ongoing commitment to be a good neighbor and continue to tighten the bond of Veteranship between Veterans and the community.
Another part of the VAC mission is to sponsor and develop community art exhibits, which, in 2019, included exhibits at the Colorado State Capital, Regis University, the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center (Aurora), Denver City Park, and the Lakewood Culture Center. All of these events occurred while the VAC maintained art gallery operations with an all-volunteer staff.
